NMP-Free Water-Based Polyimide Varnish(in-house developed products)
Brochure(Link to IPROS)
This varnish is expected to be used as an alternative to solvent-based polyimide varnishes and to improve the performance of water-based coating agents.
What are polyimides?
Polyimides are macromolecular compounds that contain an imide group and have a very stable chemical structure. This structure gives them excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, and mechanical properties. Because they can maintain their performance even in harsh environments, they are used in insulation materials and flexible printed circuits for electronic components, structural materials in aerospace fields, and other applications.
Features
- NMP free
- It is an extremely safe material because it does not contain the solvent NMP (N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone), which is used in typical polyimide varnishes. NMP falls into Category 1B of the GHS classification due to its high reproductive toxicity and is one of the SVHCs (Substances of Very High Concern) in the REACH regulations, the chemical substance management regulations of the EU.
- Excellent durability(heat resistance, mechanical properties,
electrical insulation, chemical resistance) - It is a highly durable material with durability equivalent to that of typical solvent-based polyimide varnishes.
- Reduction of VOC and CO2 emissions
- It does not contain the organic solvent NMP, so a reduction in the emission of VOC (volatile organic compounds) and CO2 (carbon dioxide) can be expected.
- Utilization of recycled resources
- It is produced using waste from polyimide film plants.
- Storable at room temperature
- While typical solvent-based polyimide varnishes require refrigerated storage at low temperatures or freezing to maintain their quality, this product is highly stable and storable at room temperature. It eliminates the need for special management with refrigeration or freezing facilities.

- The developed product will be supplied as an aqueous solution of polyamic acid, which is a polyimide precursor.
- It is a thermosetting polyimide varnish that forms a coating through drying and baking.
- At present, there are three types of development grade, and samples can be provided for each.
- Details such as coating physical properties can be downloaded via the link to IPROS.
